Heritage (or historic) painting is a genre in painting defined by its subject matter rather than artistic style. Heritage paintings usually depict a moment in a narrative story, rather than a specific and static subject, as in a portrait.

Managed by the Downtown Yonge BIA, painted by Toronto mural artist Adrian Hayles.
This mural was installed by Downtown Brockville. The mural was painted by BCI students in Derek Hunter’s art class. The students designed and painted images that reminded them of Brockville. The mural was made possible through a grant from the Brockville and Area community Foundation, as well as a private donation.

The mural depicts the arrival of the initial 36 Filles du Roy – their names appear on the sixth gown – to a settlement in New France and its subsequent growth, particularly in Ville-Marie (present-day Montreal). Artist: David Bough The ‘McIntosh Apple’ mural pays tribute to John McIntosh and his discovery of the McIntosh Red Apple in the town of Dundela, ON in 1811. The McIntosh apple would go on to become commercially sold and a popular apple, even inspiring the name for Apple’s Mac computer.
