Abstract

Abstract art uses visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world.

    My design is based on word search game, in every square I have a minimal design of the living elements ( nature, sport, people, cars, entertainment, motivation, animals,…), and the letters for the word “Oshawa” is circled.

    Cette intervention visait à donner une nouvelle image à un site ciblé par le vandalisme depuis de nombreuses années.
    The purpose of this mural was to breathe new life into a site that had been targeted by vandalism for many years.

  • Sapere Aude

    Composée exclusivement de mots, la murale s’inspire d’une activité tenue le 30 mai 2017, à l’occasion du 50e anniversaire de la bibliothèque Reginald-J.-P.-Dawson à Ville Mont-Royal.
    Composed exclusively of words, this mural was inspired by an activity held on May 30, 2017 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Reginald J. P. Dawson Library in the Town of Mount Royal.

  • Le Regard

    Ce projet s’inscrit dans un partenariat à long terme avec l’arrondissement de Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, qui voit dans l’art mural un outil important d’embellissement et de revitalisation. Depuis 2007, MU y a déjà réalisé sept murales toutes sur le thème de la rencontre en les cultures en référence au caractère multi-ethnique de l’arrondissement.
    The project is part of a longstanding partnership with the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough, which sees mural art as an important tool in neighbourhood beautification and revitalization. Since 2007, MU has created seven murals in the borough, all on the theme of intercultural encounters—a clear nod to the area’s multi-ethnic population.

  • L’anatomie de l’invisible

    Inspirée par l’environnement du parc Laurier, une série de personnages oniriques s’adonnent à une danse festive et musicale où s’entremêlent des formes aux allures d’instruments de musique. Des extraits des paroles de la chanson « Pourquoi chanter » de Louise Forestier, résidente de l’immeuble, sont inscrits sur certains personnages.
    Inspired by the atmosphere of Parc Laurier, the mural displays dream-like characters dancing joyfully amidst shapes reminiscent of musical instruments. Quotes from the song, “Pourquoi chanter” by Louise Forestier, a building resident, are written on some of the characters.

  • Art Libre / Free Art

    Art Libre – Free Art, murale réalisée par l’artiste Italien Millo, profite d’une visibilité exceptionnelle. Parsemée de références au Québec, elle rappelle avec une subtile ironie le rôle primordial que jouent l’art et la culture dans la vie des Montréalaises et des Montréalais. À l’instar des camions de cuisine de rue, l’art urbain nourrit, quant à lui, l’esprit des citoyennes et des citoyens!
    The mural, entitled Art Libre – Free Art, was created by the Italian artist Millo. It represents a number of local references and reminds us with subtle irony, the essential role played by art and culture in the lives of Montrealers.

  • Sportifs

    La murale réalisée par Cécile Gariépy met en lumière le patrimoine sportif de la ville Mont-Royal. Elle est située sur le mur aveugle du club de curling de la ville. Il s’agit de notre troisième réalisation à ville Mont-Royal.
    This mural by Cécile Gariépy celebrates the Town of Mount Royal’s sports heritage. It is located on a wall of the town’s curling club. It is MU’s third project with the Town of Mount Royal.

  • Nurture versus Nature

    En 2018 et 2019, les Habitations Jeanne-Mance (HJM) entreprennent d’importants travaux de rénovation des stationnements. Ces travaux visent à renforcer l’engagement écologique des habitations en les dotant d’un second stationnement écologique permettant la récupération des eaux de pluie et la diminution des îlots de chaleur.
    In 2018 and 2019, the Habitations Jeanne-Mance (HJM) parking lots underwent major renovations. These revitalization projects focused on strengthening HJM’s commitment to the environment through the creation of a second green parking lot that allows rainwater infiltration and reduces the urban heat island effect.

  • Tropical

    Cette murale s’inscrit en continuité des démarches proposées par l’OPA (opération populaire d’aménagement) pour la reconversion du quartier. La murale viendra embellir l’environnement et ponctuer le paysage par de nouvelles couleurs.
    The creation of Tropical represents the efforts made by the OPA (opération populaire d’aménagement) for the redevelopment of the neighbourhood and will revitalize the area by lending it new vivid colours.

  • Mémoire et racines

    Aless Mc s’est inspirée du fleuve qui borde l’arrondissement et de l’architecture des maisons ancestrales de ce plus vieux quartier de Montréal. La mémoire du lieu y est évoquée par l’utilisation du noir et blanc. Le tremble, l’arbre qui a donné son nom à l’arrondissement, rehausse le tout de ses couleurs vives.
    Aless Mc was inspired by the river that borders the borough and the architecture of the historical homes built several generations ago. The sense of memory is evoked by the use of black and white paint. The aspen tree, or the french tremble that lent its name to the borough, enhances the mural with its vivid colours.

    En 2018, c’est l’artiste de la relève Nikki Küntzle qui a relevé le défi en créant une murale aux couleurs lumineuses inspirée des jeux d’association.
    In 2018, emerging artist Nikki Küntzle, took the torch by creating a brightly coloured mural inspired by association games.

  • Jeu de construction, en trois temps

    Le langage formel de la murale s’inspire du paysage environnant, des formes géométriques caractéristiques du port, du pont Jacques-Cartier, et de l’architecture. Une sorte de triptyque en hommage à la ville qui toujours, se construit.
    The formal elements of the mural were inspired by the local scenery, various geometric shapes found at the port, the Jacques-Cartier bridge and architecture. This triptych composition pays tribute to the city, which is constantly reinventing itself.

  • La Pangée

    Réalisation d’une première murale par l’artiste québécoise Danaé Brissonnet où se retrouvent des notions comme la communauté, l’enfance, la nature, l’origine. Des thèmes qui sont ressortis des rencontres entre l’artiste et les résidents des habitations.
    The mural was inspired by notions of community, childhood, nature and origins—themes that came up in meetings between the artist and André-Grasset residents.

  • Le Jardin

    La Société de verdissement du Montréal métropolitain (SOVERDI) a fait appel à MU pour réaliser une murale à l’école Lester B Pearson dans le cadre du projet de Revitalisation urbaine intégrée (RUI) du secteur est de Montréal-Nord.
    The Société de verdissement du Montréal métropolitain (SOVERDI), an organization devoted to greening the Montreal metropolitan area, called upon MU to create a mural on Lester B. Pearson High School as part of Montréal-Nord’s integrated urban revitalization project (RUI).

  • Mother Nature

    The mural is located on the northern retaining wall along Finch Ave W between Kipling Ave and Islington Ave.

    This year’s murals will visually share authentic stories that celebrate building strength, connection and community through developing our relationship with the natural world.

  • Ensemble

    The design of this 650 square feet mural painted by Rafael Sottolichio evokes the human values that the Patro center itself conveys through its community involvement. It also celebrates the Patro’s 100th anniversary: “100 years in the hearts of the people”. The two silhouettes in the foreground represent the heart of the Patro: a couple, friends, family members, two people of different cultures or of different generations. All the figurative elements are taken from photographs belonging to the Patro archives. Inspired by his visits to the center, Rafael Sottolichio chose to juxtapose different styles by including graphic as well as black and white photographic elements obtained from the Patro archives.
