Artist’s statement: “There’s been a #metoo wave happening in Egypt where “400 official complaints of sexual assault & violence against women have been filed in 5 days” and thousands of women, bravely, shared their stories online, facing the stigma and blame that society places on survivors whom are speaking up. Inspired by every brave woman, Farah Emara, a 23 year old artist, is sharing her frustration and pride in this piece; “One day I cried out of frustration from all the stories I’ve read and heard, and yet I was crying out of pride because they’ve had the courage to break the silence and share such traumatic personal experiences. It’s hard and triggering for everyone, but no one is ever alone, we’re all together. Every woman is speaking up for herself and for all the other women. I wanted to celebrate their power and create an impression of pain and unity”. Artist Statement: ““We’re still here” depicts an illustration created with the focus of sharing artwork that can be recognized by other Indigenous people through the use of Cree syllabics; a writing system used to depict Cree dialects. With the help of their mother, Diana Morrisseau, they had both decided on the phrase nitayānān kīyāpic ōta which in Cree translates to “we’re still here,” as a sign that indigeneity and indigenous artists/voices are still prevalent in today’s society. The image uses floral designs and patterns to display reciprocity and interconnectedness at the suggestion of their mother due to how important and integral floral designs are presented in indigenous beadwork, especially among Métis artists. By including floral designs in the artwork, it is also a way for them to show solidarity towards their ancestral background as a Métis and Cree artist.”

“Canadian painter and internationally acclaimed graffiti artist, Alexander Bacon, was born and raised in Toronto and has become a renowned mural artist with over 20 years of experience. Using spray paint as the main medium, Bacon’s work has evolved towards deconstructing traditional spray graffiti techniques to create an abstract style while preserving letters’ shapes. The technique behind his work presents a unique painting style where he produces soft color transitions, blending abstract forms with realism and expressionism.”
