Lettering

Lettering is an umbrella term that covers the art of drawing letters, instead of simply writing them. Lettering is considered an art form, where each letter in a phrase or quote acts as an illustration.

  • Smooth Sky

    The piece is an ode to blue skies! The sky in Nelson really inspired me. When I first arrived, I talked to the festival organizers and several people who’ve lived here all their lives, and they were all telling me how lucky I was during my visit because the sky wasn’t smoky. Since I got here, the sky has been a perfect blue the whole time and I couldn’t imagine this beautiful place any other way.
    What it says on the wall is “may the skies forever stay blue”, over and over again. It’s sort of like a wish, that with climate change and rapidly changing weather everywhere, the hope is that we have blue sky days like these over and over again; that things stay this way. I used a lot of shades of blue in it; the majority of the shades are sky blues, so if you take a photo of the wall, even at different times of day, some part of the wall is always matching the sky.

  • River of Time

    The ‘River of Time’ mural was undertaken by artists Natalie Very B., Bareket Kezwer, Julii McMillan and Julia Prajza, as part of the Neighbourhood Love Collective’s Gateway Mural Project. The mural depicts artistically rendered wildlife, rivers and other nature scenes flowing through the seasons, the observer’s eyes following a series of unbroken rolling hills that pass through the seasons.

  • Bell Manor Park

    Located in Bell Manor Park’s southwestern field, this large mural (when viewed from left to right) displays a tri-toned set of leaves and a geometric butterfly, leading to the words ‘Bell Manor Park’ in Peru’s unique multi-coloured, block-letter styling.

  • Smile Signal Box

    “Together, we can build inclusive, multilingual neighbourhoods that celebrate diversity. Smile at your neighbours, connect with strangers. Open your hearts and embrace your community. By helping other people find their light, we can all shine brighter together.”

  • Musical Healing

    My piece entitled “Musical Healing” [May 2, 2022] is inspired by the undying magic of music and its good vibrations – it heals the soul in so many ways.

    Commissioned to complete a planter mural in Kensington Market, Toronto by the Kensington Market BIA. Thank you for the opportunity to beautify the community and get an early start on the public art season!

  • All You Need is LOVE

    As part of the The Bentway’s 2021 Community Incubation Program, I facilitated virtual workshops where participants learned basic techniques to prepare for the collaborative window mural. Based on the theme of community love, I created a fun and playful mural design with big, bold letterforms and intersecting shapes. Participants came out to paint and contribute to this massive window mural.

  • The Willowdale Basketball Court

    The basketball court design is based on feedback from a community consultation. Residents decided to have a logo inside the centre circle that represents Willowdale. The logo needed to reflect the willow trees that grow in the area and represent their energizing games with a lightning bolt. While painting the court, the artist met a few basketball players who looked pretty excited to watch their lightning idea manifest! To best identify the type of tree, Pam focused on realistic silhouettes of long and narrow willow leaves. The transparent overlaps are white to add extra spark to the overall effect. Lastly, the leafy pattern and bolt are positioned to look right-side-up for both teams while standing on each side of the court.

  • Rooftop Garden

    “The Rooftop Garden” was branded, visually transforming the space with bold colours and design to reflect community and sustainability. This project was part of our latest partnership with Seed Guelph, in support of those marginalized in the Guelph community.

  • 得閒飲茶 Duck, Hen, Yam, Cha

    Duck, Hen, Yam, Cha is a myriad of Canto expressions (and a few Toisan, and Chinglish) from different generations: from golden oldies to the latest urban speak. Artwork travels through time with our use of Canto and Toisan, heritage languages of Chinatowns throughout this continent. All four signal box locations explore Time in different ways–this is the second of four locations. The first set of double boxes was Wil Yee’s “Time and Tigers”.

  • Evansburg Mural

    In partnership with Telus Painting the Pembina 2.0 was launched. Same as in 2020, each business or person that donated over $20 has their name on a plaque. This time we raised an extra $1300 for each of the 3 Pembina Schools for their Arts Program. The mural itself is an acronym – Each letter contains pieces of the town as it is or historically that correlates with the letter. The humming bird represents Telus, and the snail shows a slower pace of life. The letters were brush painting, the critters aerosols. Again I am honored to have such a supportive community that helps me realize these projects.

  • Lansdowne Underpass Art Project

    These artworks share first person perspective stories that speak to the rich ongoing history of the site as home to many diverse plant and animal species and cultural communities, beginning with the Indigenous peoples of Tkaronto and Turtle Island. The Lansdowne Underpass Art Project creates a collaborative artwork that honours this site by telling stories of those who have and continue to live on, play on, build community on, struggle on, learn from, grow in, paint, immigrate to, contribute to, and tend to this land.
