Artist’s Statement: The design I’ve created for the Battleford and Montevideo traffic box shows core moments seen at the Meadowvale Theatre, Broadway and performance arts in general. This design captures Broadway, music, the cast of an orchestra, lavish sets and costumes set on a series of piano keys.

My aim for this design is to capture the excitement, glamour and creativity that Meadowvale Theatre offers every show! In the large portion of the traffic box, I have created 4 sides with a backdrop of a traditional wood piano. Side 4 faces Battleford Rd and consists of a gold stage, rich red curtains with gold tassels and an orchestra cast. The angle from the seats looking at the stage makes the viewer feel as if they are sitting in the audience and feel a part of the experience. Side 5 faces Montevideo Rd and shows the lavish costumes seen in Broadway performances. It encompasses the detailed, bright and extravagant costumes that make the performances so eye-catching. Side 6, facing north, represents the music and colour, finished with a red rose to represent a performance well executed. The rose on side 6 ties into the roses on side 7 to create a complete image.

My aim with this work is to create a warm welcome back to Meadowvale Theatre and encourage the community to support the art by attending shows this summer, and beyond. With my images I want to inspire performable art in youth and the community, to appreciate everything that goes into the fabulous shows you attend.
