Step x Step: East, Introduction to Mural Art Program

***PLEASE NOTE DAY CHANGE – CLASSES WILL BE SATURDAY AFTERNOONS 1-4pm, from MARCH 1st to MAY 3rd ***

A multigenerational arts program trains participants in the art of outdoor mural making

This winter, Mural Routes will be partnering with City of Toronto: Cultural Hot Spot and Morningside Library to offer a Step x Step: Introduction to Mural Art program. Step x Step: East will train participants to creatively brainstorm locally inspired mural designs for a summer 2014 mural project in Highland Creek area.

The program consists of nine classes in total. It begins March 1st and will run to May 3rd, every Saturday afternoon from 1-4pm. Topics and techniques covered include:

drawing and painting basics

mural design discussions

stencil production

enlarging techniques

and independent work.

After seven sessions of mural making techniques and design discussions, the last two sessions will be dedicated to painting large mural designs, working in pairs on their chosen theme and style. Final designs will be put on display at the library during May and June, following the completion of the program.

This course is offered to all 14+, no skill or background required. Numbers are limited – to register, email Program Coordinator at tara@muralroutes.com.

Mural Routes’ Step x Step: Intro to Mural Art program has been a part of the organization’s continuum of mural education since 2011. The goal of the program is to provide a free visual art learning opportunity for all ages (14+) and abilities to develop and explore creativity and technical skills in relation to designing and creating murals in participants’ own neighbourhoods. Past programs include Kennedy/Eglinton, Flemingdon Park, and Lakeshore.

Mural Routes is dedicated to training and supporting mural artists and communities involved in mural arts through teaching, learning and sharing initiatives in mural art together, from introductory level to professional development and consultation. Partners, Cultural Hotspot-East, support the program as it coincides in with their mandate youth mentorship and employment, business engagement, community building and artistic excellence.
