Outside the Box Art
Completed: 2024This design featuring forms and visuals drawn from nature aims to remind passersby of the restorative peace, solitude and joy that can be found in the natural world that is so inextricably linked with the city of Toronto. Be it the forests of the Don Valley, the beaches on Toronto Island or the cliffs of Scarborough Bluffs – we are surrounded by and share space with a diverse networkof wildlife and natural cycles, which can be easily overlooked in our busy lives. Combining imagery from the natural world with human forms and personal iconography, my design reflects on our connections with wildlife, ideas of metamorphosis and the cycles of life.
Artist Bio:
David Woodward is a visual artist based in Tkaronto/Toronto, Canada. Working with found-imagery and photographs, they utilize the medium of collage to find pathways and relationships between seemingly disparate visuals and sources. Using imagery gleaned from used books about the environment, astronomy, horticulture and design, their work reflects a composite visual landscape of objects, figures and situations built from anachronistic fragments of the past.
