GMC 2020 Riverside Mural

MR Circle: Bareket Kezwer Completed: August 28, 2020

This mural is a mix of ideas that have come together from the inspiration of the artists involved. We wanted to create a piece that explores our growth and journey during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the question, “When everything stops, what keeps going?”

The Girls Mural Camp 2020 officially got underway in mid-August 2020 and wrapped up on August 28, 2020. Big thank you to lead artists – Bareket Kezwer (IG @bkez) & Monica Wickeler (IG @monicaonthemoon) and East End Arts, for leading the youth campers through this exciting mural program and to the 10 participants who created such a unique and inspiring piece of mural art together.

Presented by East End Arts, the Girls Mural Camp is a three-week summer program for youth between the ages of 14-18 who self-identify as young women, girls, female, or non-binary. Through a combination of in-class learning and at home practice, participants explore the history of street art, graffiti and murals, and develop their own individual artistic style. The camp culminates with the co-creation of a street mural!

This 2020 mural project was made possible with funding support by East End Arts, City of Toronto’s Outdoor Mural and Street Art Program, and the Riverside BIA, with wall space provided by Oma Chiropractic & Wellness.
