Paul Glyn-Williams’ ‘Bat Flip’ mural was commissioned by the Toronto Blue Jays (Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment) to celebrate the career and social impact José Bautista had on the city, marking his retirement. The mural makes José Bautista’s 2015 bat flip permanent, where one can see the baseball player in his dark blue Toronto Blue Jays jersey with his hand over his shoulder after throwing his baseball bat behind him. Bautista, in the centre of the mural, and his signature in the lower right corner, are in colour, while the celebrating fans and bullpen are in black and white. Glyn-Williams’ artistic style makes it look like Bautista is about to run the bases, which adds to the excitement and the energy of this truly iconic, ‘where-were-you’ moment in Toronto sports history.
