Leadership Transition Announcement

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am writing to inform you that Managing Director Marta Keller-Hernandez will be stepping down after 8 incredible years of leadership at Mural Routes. It is with both sadness and gratitude that I announce her departure. Marta’s kindness, generosity, and commitment has been a transformative force at Mural Routes, leading the organization through the Covid-19 pandemic and a rapidly changing world with grace and wisdom. It has truly been an honour to work with her and she will be deeply missed. While we are sad to say goodbye, please join us in celebrating the incredible Marta Keller-Hernandez and her many contributions to Mural Routes during her tenure. Although we are saying farewell, Marta will always be part of the Mural Routes family and we wish her all the best. Thank you Marta!
Kind regards,
Kira Allen
Mural Routes Chair
It is with mixed feelings that I announce I will be stepping away from my role of Managing Director at Mural Routes at the end of September.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead this organization and serve the mural art community over the past eight years. Since 2017, I have had the privilege of working with incredible artists and collaborators on mural projects, professional development programs, and advocacy efforts that, I hope, have contributed to improving the livelihoods of those in the sector and provided them with key skills and experiences to advance in their careers.
I am also grateful for the opportunity to have met many of you – either through a brief conversation or through projects that allowed us to work closely and develop stronger relationships (even friendships!) over the years. To me, it has always been about the people, and what each of us can contribute to advancing the mural art practice and to strengthening this incredible community.
On a more personal note, my time at Mural Routes has allowed me to grow not only as a professional, but as a person. Particularly my leadership skills (and my understanding of what leadership means) have been shaped deeply by this experience. With the unwavering support of Mural Routes’ past and current staff and board of directors, artists, collaborators, partners and larger arts community, I was able to grow into this position I knew very little about. Because let’s be honest, nobody can do this alone nor has all the answers. Huge thank you to the mural art community members for trusting me, for your generosity with your time and knowledge, and for supporting Mural Routes over the years, both during the highs and the lows.
I am still figuring out what’s next but I’m sure it will be “all good things”. I also know Mural Routes is in good hands, and more on that will be coming soon.
As a small (but mighty!) organization, I ask for your patience as we navigate this transition time. I have committed to supporting Mural Routes as needed to ensure it all goes as smoothly as possible.
It’s been an honour to serve in this role. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Marta Keller-Hernandez
