Help Create a Public Artwork at the Scarborough Museum

One of Toronto’s First 100 in 1 Day Interventions, and part of Cultural Hotspot Loops

1007 Brimley Rd., north of Lawrence, Scarborough   |    12 – 3pm Saturday, June 7

This Saturday June 7th, Scarborough Historical Museum will be transformed into a large outdoor mural painting studio. From 12-3pm everyone is invited to join in painting and stenciling pieces for a mural, aided by a group of Mural Routes artists.

Scarborough Historical Museum will host the public art intervention, coordinated and facilitated by the artists of Mural Routes (and our Leadership Training in Mural Making team!). Museum staff  have asked for the mural to brighten the 300 ft. fence that winds around their site, with a theme of “Welcome”. The panels created during the event will be installed along the Museum fences, which face out towards Thomson Memorial Park.

The Museum joins 100+ different public spaces around Toronto that will be animated by creative and unconventional projects as part of the first 100 in 1 Day event. 100 in 1 Day asks, “What if hundreds of people united, each putting in place the changes they wish to see in their city, all on the same day?”

About 100 in 1 Day Toronto

100in1dayOn June 7, for the first time-ever, Toronto will host 100 in 1 Day. This citizen-driven festival will unite people across the city to make Toronto a better place by creating acts of urban change. These acts, or interventions, have the potential to raise awareness of urban and social issues, inspire ideas, and motivate leaders to consider new approaches to old problems.

About Cultural Hotspot – East

cultural hot spotThis intervention at the Museum is also a part of Cultural Services’ Cultural Hotspot – East Cultural Loops animation weekend in south Scarborough. The Cultural Hotspot celebrates community, culture and creativity around the city. Produced by Toronto Cultural Services, the inaugural Cultural Hotspot program (East) features a region of Scarborough bordered by Lawrence Avenue, Highland Creek Village, Victoria Park Avenue and the lake.
