Call for Applications: Mural Artist Assistants
Rainbow Tunnel Repaint — Moccasin Trail Park, Toronto

Our beloved Rainbow Tunnel needs some TLC! Mural Routes is hiring 4 mural artist assistants to help lead artist Rob Matekja repaint and repair the Rainbow Tunnel in Moccasin Trail Park, Toronto. This is hands-on, physical work: surface prep, priming, and painting in a public outdoor setting, on a set schedule alongside a small crew.
The Role
Assistants will work under the direction of lead artist Rob Matekja to:
- Prep tunnel surfaces (cleaning, scraping, priming as needed)
- Apply paint to both the interior and exterior of the tunnel following the lead artist’s design and colour plan
- Maintain clean lines, consistent coverage, and colour accuracy across large surface areas
- Help manage paint, tools, and materials on site each day
- Work safely in a public park setting, including around pedestrians and cyclists using the trail
- Be a representative on behalf of Mural Routes while onsite
No specific experience level is required — we welcome applicants of all backgrounds, though comfort with working under direction of a lead artist, with various painting tools and on ladders is important.
