L’envol (the uplifting)

Completed: 2024

For over 20 years, the Centre-Femmes La Jardilec in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli had dreamed of adorning its facade with an activist mural. Following a collaboration between the center’s members and visual artist Tania Hillion, the Centre-Femmes now boasts a mural that celebrates the strength and diversity of women.
The mural “L’Envol” (The uplifitng) highlights the invisible burden that society imposes on women.
The artwork, in its hyperrealistic representation, illustrates the multiple roles and expectations that women face daily: being perfect professionally while assuming the majority of domestic tasks, meeting unrealistic beauty standards, facing normalized discrimination, and navigating a world that often underestimates their abilities. These pressures, represented by heavy loads carried by three female silhouettes, underscore women’s constant struggle for equality and recognition.

Alongside this impressive mural of over 1000 square feet, one element stands out: a balloon in the colors of Centre-Femmes La Jardilec. This vibrant balloon rising among the female figures symbolizes hope and the lightening of societal burden. It represents the support, mutual aid, and emancipation that the center brings to its community.
This meaningful image serves as a reminder of the crucial role organizations like Centre-Femmes La Jardilec play in the fight for gender equality and women’s empowerment
