This Bell Box recalls fruit crates from roadside fruit stands in Grimsby and those that travel to grocery stores throughout Ontario delivering Grimsby fresh produce. It celebrates the history and culture of fruit farming, farming technology and agricultural research that has been such a part of the region for generations and is still alive today. The diverse fruit crops that were cultivated in Grimsby farms are depicted on larger-than-life brightly coloured vintage-style labels pasted on the sides of a faux wooden crate, with warm oak-like tones. The labels are painted slightly worn, scratched and peeling on the edges, but still vibrant and attractive, evoking wear from years of use. Cherries, peaches, apples, grapes, plums and pears punctuate the surface with text announcing how the promised produce is “Grimsby Grown”, “Farm Fresh”, and top quality in large fonts and contrasting colours, making the messages readable from a distance. This vintage style is meant to look a bit worn, so it can age well and beautify Grimsby for many years to come.
