PIECE BY PIECE: Online Mosaic Workshops for Seniors in Scarborough (2022-2023)
Mural Routes and Community Arts Guild co-presented online mosaic workshops with funding provided by the Canada council for the Arts and the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. Seniors living in Scarborough developed mural-making skills with experienced mosaic mural artist Cristina Delago and Assistant Artist Robin Hesse.. As part of the program, delivered virtually, each participant created a mosaic panel to contribute to this large community mural project based on the statement “Why we love Scarborough”.
Expanding on the Piece by Piece: Online Mosaic Workshops of 2021 during the unprecedented times of Covid-19, this mosaic mural project aims to celebrate Scarborough’s community. Using the time together to heal and bond through the creative process of mosaic-making, those involved in the workshops developed a sense of community.
Participants also created a mosaic keepsake for themselves. Mural Routes supplied and safely delivered all materials needed to participate; including tech equipment and internet access for those who requested it.
The Scarborough series of online mosaic workshops took place from January 30, 2023 to April 27, 2023.
