A geometric minimalist rendering of a mountain landscape in black and white
Artist(s): Kari Kristensen

Coast Range Reflected

Completed: 2021

This minimalistic landscape mural painted by Karl Kristensen is a large format version the artist’s printmaking practice. The medium of carving rivets into linoleum and using ink to make a print is mimicked on this wall with spray paint. The monochromatic palette and extreme minimalism is a nod to the tradition of landscape painting in Canadian modern art. In appreciation of B.C.’s waters and mountains, the line work is meant to draw attention to the forms that are prominent across cultures and continents.
