Mural Routes, Cultural Hotspot and StreetARToronto celebrate Scarborough with the launch of a gateway mural in the Scarborough south west’s neighborhood of Birch Cliff. Come celebrate the beautifully painted mural by Bill Wrigley – Original Fine Art Murals
The Western Gateway mural is one of two gateway murals, created as Signature Projects of the Cultural Hotspot. The mural, created by artist Bill Wrigley focuses on the community’s relationship with the bluffs overlooking Lake Ontario and the natural flora and fauna that thrive in the region. There is a focus on the migration of birds and butterflies, the Cathedral Bluffs on the left and the Scarborough Bluffs on the right.
Cultural Hotspot brings cultural activities, art interventions, development opportunities and legacy projects to the Hotspot neighbourhoods. With an emphasis on youth mentorship and employment, business engagement, community building and artistic excellence, the project seeks to draw new attention to the Hotspot area. Produced by Toronto Cultural Services, this project builds on existing community strengths while developing resources in inner suburban neighbourhoods.
StreetARToronto or StART is a pro-active program that aims to develop, support, promote and increase awareness of street art and its indispensable role in adding beauty and character to neighbourhoods across Toronto, while counteracting graffiti vandalism and its harmful effect on communities.Their various funding opportunities support the programs mission to revitalize and engage communities through street and mural art.
