Canadian artist Amy Shackleton’s practice investigates humans’ ecological impact on natural and manufactured landscapes through acrylic painting. Inspired by her travels, she blends cities with nature to depict our uncertain future – be it utopian or apocalyptic.

Shackleton’s inventive painting process has engaged millions of viewers online. Rather than conventional paint brushes, Shackleton applies paint with squeezes bottles. Using a water spritzer and/or rotating easel, she manipulates the drips as they fall down the surface. Urban architecture and buildings are each carefully planned out and deliberately portrayed, while her natural elements are formed from spontaneous and organic paint application - techniques imitating how these environments are created in real life.

Shackleton collaborates with public galleries, museums, corporate spaces and private collectors to create site-specific murals. Looking at local climate, city architecture and surrounding landscapes she investigates humans’ environmental impact.
