Celebrating

MR Circle: Lambertus De Graaf

This painting was commissioned to represent the history of Knox Presbyterian Church in Tiverton, Ontario. In 2009 the congregation at Knox Church celebrated their 150th anniversary with several different events throughout the year. A mural of past Ministers was painted on the wall of the parking lot entrance, as well as a large cross on an adjacent wall to welcome everyone as they entered. The Anniversary weekend on October 17 & 18, 2009 included activities for the children, dinner and entertainment. A special service was held on Sunday with Andrew, Shelley and Greg Fortier as guest speakers.

The artist, Lambertus De Graaf, painted this over a period of a year, while living in the village, using photo files from the church archives. Lacking scaffolding, Lambertus constructed a temporary scaffold made of 4 x 4 lumber. The painting, using latex paints, will last a long time indoors. To see it you may have to contact the church to gain indoor entry. I am sure there will be no real opposition and you may learn a bit more of the history of this beautiful church and its place in local history.
