Avril is a multidisciplinary artist. She has worked mainly in designing and creating illustrations, user experiences and motion graphics for companies in the technology, retail and entertainment industries. Av.wu (Avril Wu), has previously designed and installed murals for popular restaurants in Toronto and other Toronto Street Art events. The biggest mural she has completed to this date is 10 ft x 20 ft at CityPlace. Avril’s art focuses on themes such as, women empowerment, vulnerability and cultural education. She keys in on the strengths and weaknesses of the women's body and mind. Her art expresses powerful messages that resonate strongly with her audience, building a strong sense of community. Inspired by her homeland, Malaysia, she often incorporates natural elements in her pieces, including tropical plants, animals, geographic and climatic details. Avril’s art style can be described as minimalistic line art with a mix of solid, vibrant and geometric shapes to create depth. Wu’s goal is to travel the world bringing walls to life wherever she goes. As a professional dancer she loves the process of painting at a larger scale as it doesn’t only become about the movement of the arms, wrist and fingers, but her entire body. It’s the physical and mental process that she has fallen madly in love with!
