Mural Routes is currently seeking multiple Mural Archive Assistant across Canada for work supporting our Mural Map of Canada project. We are looking for those who are interested in connecting with their community through mural art while developing their skills in archival research and art and cultural heritage preservation.
DESCRIPTION
The Mural Archive Assistant is responsible for gathering information pertaining to the murals within their catchment area. Catchment areas include:
- Whitehorse YK,
- Vancouver & surrounding area B.C,
- Edmonton and/or Calgary AB,
- Winnipeg MB,
- Halifax and/or Moncton NS/NB,
- GTA/Southern ON.
They will use this information to populate the Mural Map of Canada. The catchment areas are designated “central points” from which Mural Archive Assistants can travel outwards at a radius of 3 hours to collect mural data. This position will be paired with a Photo Documentarian with whom they are expected to collaborate, along with members of the community, to capture and record the mural history of the places in which they live.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with the Tech Lead + Membership Coordinator and Managing Director of Mural Routes, the successful applicant will undertake the following key tasks:
- Working with the Photo Documentarian to research new mural locations and potential murals for documentation within the designated catchment area that aren’t already documented on the Mural Map of Canada
- Reviewing existing murals on the Map within the catchment area and updating information as needed (ie. murals which no longer exist)
- Reaching out to community members and stakeholders to collect relevant information on the murals identified to archive to ensure fulsome recorded data
- Contacting artists and/or organisations to identify key stakeholders on murals
- Uploading the collected data in a consistent format to the Mural Map of Canada and liaising with Mural Routes’ Tech Lead + Membership coordinator as needed
REQUIREMENTS
- Enrolled in or graduated from a University or College program with a focus in Art History, Arts Management, Fine Arts, Arts Education, or equivalent experience you think would make you a suitable candidate. Artists are highly encouraged to apply.
- Excellent organisational, administrative and research skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as with a remote team
- General computer literacy and strong familiarity with web applications
- Effective interpersonal, oral communication and writing skills
- Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate part-time work
- Must be willing to travel within the designated catchment area
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
